Finally!! We are happy to announce that we are carrying Infant Baby Crochet Beanies. These Beanies fit size Newborn up to about 9 months depending on the size of the child's head.
They come is this adorable colors. (from top to bottom) THIS LAW AFFECTS ALL ITEMS & HANDCRAFTED ITEMS FOR CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 12!!!!
Effective February 10, 2009, children's handmade items such as headbands, flower clips, hats, clothing (new & used) blankets, burp cloths, shoes, tutus, bows, hair clips and all of the other things you have come to know and love from Tootsie Bug may be a thing of the past.
As a result of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act passed by Congress, as it stands right now, no longer will you be allowed to buy the items listed above or shop recycled items. This includes selling your child's outgrown clothing and toys.
The government labels previously-safe items for children 12 & under Banned Hazardous Substances on Feb. 10 until proven otherwise.
In effect, this means that we'd have to add on a testing fee in the HUNDREDS of DOLLARS for each and every item we sell, which is of course not do-able.
It is AGAINST THE LAW for anyone: us, you, eBayers, Etsy Shop's, Craigslisters, Kid-to-Kid & Child Consignment stores, DI & garage-sale givers to sell anything that has not been PROVEN safe.
But this law... It makes EVERYTHING ILLEGAL unless tested one-by-one. This means
your child's t-shirts, jeans, shoes, toys, strollers, dolls, hats, coats headbands, bows, barrettes, puzzles, bikes, hand-made quilts etc., etc., etc.
EVERYTHING!!!
Does this mean your child's dresser drawers are full of hazardous substances?
Does this mean you are a child abuser by dressing your child in clothes and other handcrafted items that you haven't zapped with an X-ray tester
(warning: DANGEROUS to women of child-bearing years) as the Federal government wants us to?
Does this mean your library can't loan out books and DVDs?
Does this mean the death of hundreds of thousands of small home based businesses of mothers trying to earn a little extra money every month to pay the bills, in an already struggling economy?
WITHOUT COMPLETELY REWRITING THIS LAW: YES.
Does this mean you will have to THROW AWAY everything your child has rather than sell it or hand it onward?
Does this mean our already overflowing landfills will become even more burdened?
Does this mean you will HAVE TO BUY NEW and you're NOT ALLOWED TO BUY HANDMADE, ONE-OF-A-KIND CRAFTS items?
Yes, because the people who make these will find it cost-prohibitive to have a lab test each product.
What can YOU do?????
*Call & E-mail your State Representative and Senator to tell them this law must be re-drafted.
